PRESS RELEASE: November 18TH,
2003
The monthly meeting of MOPS (Mothers of
Preschoolers) was held Monday evening at the Nocona Church of Christ
Annex. The MOPS Moms heard a delightful and interesting talk given on
“Traditions in the Home”. Judy Hall of Bowie gave a very heartwarming
presentation about the importance of traditions. “Whether you start your
own or rely upon generations of family ones, traditions are something that
make you feel good and warm, sort of like cuddling up with a cozy
blanket,” said Hall. She also related some of her own family traditions
and MOPS Moms then had the opportunity to talk about some of their
important family customs. After a meal and wonderful craft project of
Jelly Jar Pin Cushions the MOPS Moms discussed a couple of upcoming
fundraisers. One of which will be a baby quilt raffle and the other is
having a dessert booth near the Nocona Rural Fire Department Fish Fry
during Nocona’s Downtown Christmas Celebration on December 5th.
If you are an interested Mother of a Preschooler (birth to 5 years) please
contact Darci Woodyard at 825-5451 or email noconamops@aol.com for more information.
Meetings are held every third Monday evening from
6pm-8pm
at the
Church
of
Christ Annex
in Nocona. Childcare is provided, however, places are limited; please
contact MOPPET Coordinator Nell Ann McBroom at 987-3304 for more
information. The next MOPS meeting will be a Christmas Ornament Exchange
on December 15th at
6pm
.

Coordinator's
Corner...
By Darci Woodyard
We are so excited to get this MOPS
year started and we are so proud to have YOU as part of our charter group!
Let me just say a HUGE thank you to our very dedicated and tireless
steering team and mentors! They have been busy attending other MOPS
groups, putting together forms, planning budgets, purchasing toys, and
painting classrooms so we can get off to a great start! God will surely
bless the fruits of their labor.
I hope you are just as excited about
being a part of a wonderful group of ladies who are all striving to be
better moms. As I have gotten to know more of you, it thrills me to know
the amount of talent and passion that so many of you have. Through MOPS,
we can grow as individuals which will help us turn out better families,
better churches, and a better community.
There are so many opportunities for
moms to grow as leaders within MOPS. Even if you do not feel like a
natural born leader, there is a place for you to serve in some way. All
you need is the passion to improve yourself, your church, and/or your
community.
We have some fun things planned for
you and your children this year. October 20th from 6-8:30 PM will be our
first meeting in which we will be celebrating Halloween. Troy Magruder and
Chris Cox of the Nocona Police Department will be discussing the
importance of safety while Trick or Treating.
We have a great opportunity to help
support our local policemen that night. Both these guys are very dedicated
to helping make Nocona a better place for raising our children.
I hope this year will be filled with
laughter, maybe occasional tears, and most of all, lasting friendships as
we all strive to become better moms ...because mothering matters!

Money Matters

Remember the registration fee to MOPS
International was discounted from $20 to $15, thanks to the scholarships
we received. If you registered, you have received a great package
containing two books for moms, a Veggie Tales video, and coupons and other
goodies. You will also start getting the weekly emails from MOPS.
The $5 per meeting pays primarily for
MOPS and Moppets supplies, creative activities supplies, meeting decor,
and small gifts for guest speakers, just to name a few. We will still be
needing to do fundraisers to try to start holding back some money for next
year so we can keep our fees low.
Keep in mind the next two due dates
for fees will be Jan. 5 and March 15, in which $25 will be due each time.
Keep in mind that if money is ever an issue for you, contact me and I will
be able to work with you. |
